New books received this week

Dental care for the elderly [DVD]. Sydney : NSW Health, c1993.

This 16 minutes long DVD produced by NSW Health and the Westmead Special Needs Dentistry Clinic is one of their educational videos on how to give good oral care. It is one of the Clinic's key resources for special care in dentistry.

New books received this week

This manual details the orthodontic solutions possible through the use of the STb light lingual system and its innovative variable-friction lingual bracket. Taking into consideration the recent developments within the industry and in laboratory procedure, the authors detail the latest improvements in the system, such as improved patient comfort, increased predictability of results, shortened treatment times, and decreased laboratory work.






Dental attendance patterns and oral health status / AC Ellershaw. Canberra: AIHW, 2011.

This publication explores the relationship between dental attendance patterns and oral health status. The findings are sourced from the 2004–2006 National Survey of Adult Oral Health (NSAOH). In this survey a random sample of Australian adults was interviewed by telephone to collect information on dental attendance patterns and self-reported oral health. An oral examination was then undertaken to collect information on tooth decay and gum disease.

The report provides information on the following aspects of dental services: amount and types of dental services provided, extent of follow-up care provided to children with dental referrals, and oral health status of children who received dental services.

Access full-text articles easier & faster

PubMed and beyond

They are many alternative interfaces to PubMed offering different search and retrieval methods currently not available within PubMed. This free article PubMed and beyond: a survey of web tools for searching biomedical literature looks at and reviews 28 web tools for searching the biomedical literature and compares them to PubMed and each other and has a website dedicated to tracking existing tools and future advances in the area of biomedical literature search tools. Not only does the article look at these 28 interfaces but it also looks at the recent changes to PubMed that were often influenced by these and other outside interfaces.
