OvidSP Interface Enhancements

The Krafty Librarian recently reported that Wolters Kluwer Health will release enhancements to their new OvidSP database interface.

The enhancements, scheduled to go live on the 31st of March, are as follows:

  1. Annotation Export - Annotations can now be exported to Endnote, Reference Manager, or any other citation manager.
  2. Search screen position - The cursor will no longer jump to the results after a search has been completed. The cursor will stay in the search box.
  3. Result s Manager - the Actions box in the Results Manager wil appear at both the top and bottom of the Results Manager.
Other enhancements include improvements to both the inline abstracts and to the RSS feeds - you will be able to subscribe using Google Reader, My Yahoo, or Bloglines.

Thanks Krafty for bringing this news to my attention!

TRIP Database

The latest addition to DentistryLibrary@Sydney is the TRIP Database search gadget, which can be found in the sidebar to the right of this post. The Gadget will allow readers to enter a search query and quickly come up with a range of results that will address the query, ranging from systematic reviews to articles from PubMed, which are filtered using PubMed's own Clinical Queries filters.

The aim of the TRIP Database is to "...allow health professionals to easily find the highest-quality material available on the web - to help support evidence based practice"[TRIP Database: Introduction & Background]. It just might be the ideal tool for the busy clinician who needs access to a wide range of evidence-based products in a timely manner.

The TRIP Database also contains a My TRIP homepage, which allows the user to register their own profile and set up their own auto-alerts to retrieve clinical content whenever the database is updated. This looks like it might be a good way to keep to date with evidence-based practice in individual disciplines.

Finally, TRIP has added specialist sites, one of which is Oral Health. This specialist site allows you to see the latest news, view popular searches, and have your searches filtered to include the 11 specialist oral health journals initially offered by TRIP. I've added a link to this Oral Health Specialist site to the sidebar on the right.

New interface for Medline: OvidSP

OvidSP is the name of the new Medline database interface release by Wolters Kluwer Health back at the begining of February. The interface builds upon an already excellent product, streamlining many features whilst retaining the excellent subject search functionality.
New features include:

  • New basic search using natural language processing
  • Search aid box for greater search transperancy
  • Enhanced personalisation - provision of RSS feeds for database auto-alerts and a new annotations feature which will allow you to add notes to individual references.
  • And much more...
Kathy Thorncraft from the Medical Sciences Libraries has produced two short online tutorials explaining the use of the basic search and the setting up of personal accounts and autoalerts:
  1. Basic Search [2 mins 28 secs]
  2. Personal Account/ Creating Auto Alerts [3 mins 24 secs]
